Damage is destruction, such as being caused by a storm; damages are awarded by a court as compensation for injuries. Here is the corrected version:

The damage from Hurricane Irene has been severe. Power is still out in portions of Princeton, NJ. The electric company has announced all homes and businesses can expect power restoration by Monday, September 5.
